Talon Barbet has been a passenger in his life since the death of his sister and his mother left him with an absentee father. Still, he is determined that his first year at Vikberg College, an ultra-elite university for vampires, will make up for years of loneliness. Unfortunately, it means he must forget about Lennox; his best friend and the source of his infatuation.

But when he learns of a way to mask her scent, Talon sneaks Lennox into Vikberg by having her assume the identity of his dead sister with the help of his childhood friend Staver, who is reluctant to serve as Talon's accomplice. Talon hopes the trio can create new lives at Vikberg. Only, Staver avoids him, while Lennox integrates better than Talon, who chokes during a club initiation and scrambles to get a foothold on university life.

As the friends drift apart, Lennox’s true identity is nearly exposed when someone breaks into her room with a threatening message. Talon becomes increasingly erratic and suspects Staver is a tantrum away from ratting her out. Fueled by paranoia, Talon recklessly attempts to restore his relationships. But everything he's worked to build can come crashing down, especially if the vampires discover Talon is responsible for smuggling Lennox - a human - into Vikberg.
